Why a local videographer actually matters

It isn’t about saving travel costs. It’s that we already know your venue’s light, your registrar’s timings, and which quayside corner is quiet at 4pm. We know which makeup artists run late (most of them), the venues where the sun sets behind the top table, and the covered spots that save a rainy confetti shot. That knowledge is what a calm wedding day is made of, and it’s the difference between a filmmaker reacting to your day and one who’s three steps ahead of it.

Practically, it also means I can scout your venue before the day rather than arriving hopeful. If you’re marrying somewhere I haven’t filmed, that’s normal, the region has hundreds of venues. I’ll go and look.

The three kinds of North East wedding, and how each films

Nearly every day here falls into one of three shapes, and each has its own filming logic.

• Coast and castles (mostly Northumberland). The best light in England and the most wind. Heritage rooms are darker than your eye thinks, the coast is where drone coverage genuinely earns its £200, and the weather is a co-author. Ellingham Hall, Healey Barn, Linden Hall, Newton Hall, Le Petit Chateau.
• Country houses (mostly County Durham). Parkland that holds golden light late, grand rooms that are short of light, and grounds generous enough that the couple session never fights for space. Hardwick Hall, Wynyard Hall, Lumley Castle, Runa Farm, South Causey.
• City days (Newcastle & Gateshead). These run on minutes, not hours: short windows, tight rooms, lots happening at once. A city-centre registry office gives you roughly twenty minutes inside for photographs, so everything gets choreographed before anyone walks in. Quayside portraits, confetti on the steps, then a long lunch. We’re a recommended supplier at The Biscuit Factory and its Garden Room, and the Common Room on Westgate Road is the most dramatic room in the city, and one of the best wet-weather choices going.

The rules that hold anywhere in the region

Wherever you’re marrying between the Tweed and the Tees, these four don’t change.

1. The makeup rule. Whatever time you need to be ready, tell your hair and makeup team an hour earlier. They will run late, it’s my number one super-duper rule, and the half hour they borrow comes straight out of your relaxed morning and your portrait light. Build the buffer in, because a chilled morning makes a great day.

2. Flip the top table. If the sun sets behind you, you’re a silhouette through the speeches. Turn it round and you get the view and the light on your faces.

3. Add fifteen minutes to everything. A five-minute drive becomes twenty once you’ve said hello and hugged everyone. Allow 20–30 minutes for couple photos, 3–4 minutes per group photo, and write the group list down, I’m good, but my name’s not Harry Potter.

4. Have a real rain plan. This is the North East. A covered spot scoped before the day, a shortened outdoor plan for a dry window, and, if you’re game, we embrace it, umbrella portraits look genuinely cinematic. There’s always a way.

What you get back, and when

A share-ready sneak clip within 48 hours, sometimes the same night, while the family group chat is still going. The full film is hand-graded and delivered within 8–12 weeks, with the date in writing rather than a shrug. If you want it, the voiceover letter, a few whispered sentences recorded on the morning and laid over the film, is the part couples tell me they cry at.

What it costs across the North East

Coverage runs from £800 (ceremony-only) to £2,200 (The Cinematic), with The Highlight at £1,500 and photography from £850. Drone is £200. Fixed upfront, the full price list is published, and there are no travel charges anywhere in the region, Northumberland coast, Durham dales, Sunderland, Teesside, all of it.
