Hardwick Hall Hotel wedding videographer.

120 acres of parkland beside a lake in Sedgefield, County Durham, and honestly, the grounds are the reason to film here. I’ve shot a wedding at Hardwick, and below is the full film plus first-hand advice on getting the most out of the place.

If you like greenery, nature and big open fields, Hardwick is a special place to get married, and it films that way too. It sits in 120 acres of parkland with a lake at the heart of it, nature trails threaded through the grounds, ponds, and swans on the water. You get two backdrops for the price of one: the hotel itself, all heritage and character, and then the grounds, which is where the film really opens up.

The tipi is what makes a Hardwick summer wedding

The wedding I filmed here had a tipi out on the grounds, and it made everything feel so nice, it’s just perfect for a summer wedding. You’ve got the tipi, the lakeside setting behind it and the parkland around it, and that combination gives a film warmth and space at the same time. If you’re marrying at Hardwick in the warmer months, the outdoor, lakeside side of the day is the bit I’d build everything around.

Where the grounds earn their keep on camera

The scale here is the gift, so we don’t need long for your couple session, we need the right window against the light. The lake and the parkland are made for a drone; the nature trails and the water give you quiet, close, natural moments away from the crowd; and the wide fields hold that classic golden-hour walk. Hardwick is also fully licensed for outdoor ceremonies (the Tuscan alcove has the lakeside views), which films beautifully, weather permitting, so agree the indoor backup with the venue in advance and nobody panics if the Durham sky turns.

What couples say afterwards

“Darius captured moments we didn’t even know happened. The highlight reel had both our families in tears.”

The one rule I’ll repeat until you’re sick of it

Whatever time you need to be ready, tell your hair and makeup team an hour earlier than that. They almost always run late, and the time they borrow comes straight out of your relaxed morning and your best portrait light. Get ready early, get some music on, and the whole day films calmer and looks better for it.

What it costs, and how I cover it

Hardwick is home ground, so there are no travel charges. Full-day films from £1,500, ceremony-only from £800, photography from £850, every price published, no “enquire for a quote”. Questions now are always better than questions on the day, so ask me anything.
